It was the first time that my young kids have been down there and they were troopers...plenty of beach time with sunscreen on them. Sayulita is a great place to take kids but you should use common sense:
If it is the warm season keep the kids hydrated and don't spend time out in the hottest part of the day.
Keep them cover in hats and other shaded clothing or better yet bring umbrellas to the beach.

Encourage them to take it easy since the humidity can really get to them.
Let them play on the sandy parts of the beach and discourage them from getting out on the low tide reefs...they are sharp and unforgiving.
Well we had a great time surfing on out longboards on the right hander... the highlight was watching my 2-year old on a foam board paddling as I pushed him into the little swells. I'll have to pay close attention to him in the future!

Getting to Sayulita via car or RV

So how many times have you made the trip from the northern reaches down the highway 15 to 200 to Sayulita? It used tobe really be an adventurous way to go...or a real trying experience if you were not prepared. now with the plethora of toll highways it is a lot smoother. Gosh I can remember the first time with my whole family and my uncle in 1985. We were pulling a 1950's travel trailer that looked more like a white stink bug attached to the truck followed by my uncles izuzu.
We drove for 5 days spending time in Guymas, Culiacan, Mazatlan and Tepic along the way. We actually passed Sayulita without even knowing it and ended up in Bucerias. Once there we heard about a sleepy fishing village just up the road......we decided to check it out and once arriving in Sayulita we were hooked!
The next time I went down was with some friends from my JC in 1990. We hit a rainstorm for most of the trip through sonora , sinaloa and nayarit....what a crazy drive. The weirdest memory was fording an underpass that had become a storm water drain and seeing a volks beetle floating downstream with several people clinging to it to try and keep it on the road! We stayed in Mazatlan for a bit and finally got to Casa Rios and enjoyed the mystical break in the multi-state storm. We all fell in love with Vallartas oldtown on our frequent trips to the "big city" but usually we breathed a sigh of relief once arriving safely back at the villa.
